Tie beam is used to stiffening the whole building on the foundation level which help in minimizing the settlement and displacement for a foundation .

The quantity of steel reinforcement for tie beams can be estimated by:

• Calculate the total length of tie beam from tie beam layout
• Check the diameters required and no of bars required for each dia

Now approximately see the length of each dia in a beam till where they are extended and calculate the length for all beams and multiply with its unit weight

Weight of 1m of steel = d*d/162 (d is dia of steel) kg

add all the weights to get approximate estimated weight

Actual calculation requires preparation of detailed bar bending schedule which is time consuming
